About
Originally opened in 1766, Bristol Old Vic is the country’s oldest continuously working theatre, making it a magnificent venue for weddings. With such an historic and unique venue Bristol Old Vic offers endless possibilities to make your wedding day truly remarkable. Centrally located on historic King Street, just one mile from Temple Meads railway station and nine miles from Bristol Airport, Bristol Old Vic is well placed for local travel and accommodation options.
When you book your wedding, not only will your guests benefit from the one of a kind setting but also an exceptional culinary experience from one of the leading caterers in the South West, local institution and family-owned Fosters. Overseen by chef director Tom Green, who worked with Michelin two-starred Michael Caines and former head chef at the highly acclaimed Riverstation restaurant in Bristol, the menus will feature the highest quality fresh and locally-sourced produce.
The centrepiece of the venue is the Grade I listed Coopers' Hall, originally built as a Georgian banqueting hall in 1744, which is being restored to its former glory. With its high ceilings and huge over-arch windows which flood the beautifully-proportioned space with natural light, the elegantly-renovated hall will provide all the romance and drama that such a special occasion demands. Pre-dating the theatre itself, Coopers' Hall has had a rich and colourful history over the years having been a public assembly room, wine warehouse and Baptist chapel. It was incorporated into the theatre's foyer during the 1970s, and this autumn will be the first time in over 40 years it can be experienced as it was originally intended. The room can cater for up to 120 formally-seated guests and 200 for standing events.
Feel like a star in your own theatrical production as you celebrate the most important day of your lives in a venue that has played host to some of the country’s most famous actors, from Daniel Day Lewis and Jeremy Irons, to Patrick Stewart and Judi Dench.
The income generated from holding your event at Bristol Old Vic will go towards supporting the longest continuously-running theatre in the UK. A registered charity, Bristol Old Vic strives to create pioneering theatre by supporting experiment and innovation, reach out into its communities to provide access to theatre for people who would not otherwise encounter it or be able to afford it, and keep its extraordinary heritage alive and animated for all of Bristol to enjoy.
